How to Install Beavertail Sit Pad
An extremely versatile sit pad to keep you off the damp/frozen ground and prevent you from becoming a cold casualty. Doubles as a beavertail outside your pack to carry additional cargo. Universal mounting design can clip onto almost any piece of gear. Can also be used standalone with an optional waist strap.
Sit pads have long been in use by hunters and by European militaries as a valuable tool to stay dry in cold, wet environments, but their primitive design has left a lot of unused potential. We reimagined the sit pad for the twenty first century.
No longer relying on a separate waist strap, our beavertail sit pad mounts seamlessly onto your existing gear. It can clip to any belt up to 4" in height, or to any length of 1" webbing (this includes any row of PALS/MOLLE, or any vertical strap such as a suspender strap or a compression strap on your ruck or LFR). Adjustable ride height means the pad can always be in the perfect position, no matter where it's mounted. Quick release buckles allow you to fully detach it for use as a seat, as a kneeling pad, or in case it gets snagged. We added buckles to the top of the sit pad, so it can be wrapped around the bottom of your pack to serve as a cargo beavertail. This protects the bottom of your pack from the damp, while also holding items tight against the outside of your pack. This is great for bulky items such as hand tools, firewood, snow shoes, helmets, tripods, or launchers. Lighter items such as jackets and ponchos can be tucked into the elastic shock cord on the outside of the sit pad, and accessed without having to take your gear off.
Inside the sit pad is a 1/2" section of nonabsorbent closed cell foam that provides a thick and comfortable barrier between you and the ground. It is field replaceable via a hidden velcro closure, and can be replaced with any cut down section of foam sleep pad if need be.
